On 10/22/2011, about 500 teachers from across the state of California came to the LAUSD occupation to support the teachers camping in front of LAUSD HQ. LAUSD has not rehired over 900 layed off teachers even though they have over $55 Million in surplus funds. Leaders of California Teachers Association (CTA), UTLA, Oakland Teachers Association, Nurses Union and the San Diego Teachers Association spoke about uniting together to fight the corporate take over of our public schools and to demand end to school layoffs.

  • Thank you for covering this rally! Just posted it on OccupyLAUSD [dot] org

  • @OccupyLAUSD No problem. Just a small contribution to a great cause. We should try to keep the momentum going. How about if we try to organize teachers from UTLA, CFT, CTA, parents and students to participate in a big march demanding end to cuts to education.

  • A just society is one that pays teachers the same as corporate CEOs.

  • @ucvessel Teachers don't have to get paid as much as the corporate CEOs but 100 to 1 ratio we have is ridiculous. Bankers gambled and lost and we the public had to bail them out ($2 Trillion or more). If just a fraction of that was used to help out the communities, we won't have a growing mob of angry citizens.
