i have been in the sportfishing industry for 20 years and can tell you that now days resin molded fish are the norm across the board. the epa has baned most of the needed chemicals required to mount the actual fish thus leaving room only for the space age resins. circle hooks do preserve the population and in most cases you are forbidden to boat a billfish for any reason.
they identify the fish by pictures and a corrisponding number in the shot.

to all who are concerned about the killing of billfish, please know that just like many other fish, sails and marlin have a legal length that must be reached in order to kill them. that measurement is based upon the breeding rate of that species. once the fish has reached that length they are outside of the breed range and dont contribute to the population.

(4) [the last, but not the least]
the key point was to watch this beauty FREE, rather than catch the beautiful and powerful fish to amuse oneself and prove that the homo sapiens species dominates the nature...
Sailfish is one of the most beautiful creatures - sheer elegance and power. It's breathtaking to see such fish piercing the pelagic blue, FREE.
And it's sad and disgusting to see marlins or sailfish cought and killed, then kept as trophies. Can those "pick winners" be really proud of what they do? I doubt it...

Thank you for your comment on our video.
I would like to address your generalized points though.

We believe in preserving the pelagic fishery. That is why we require the use of circle hooks, which unlike traditional J hooks, cuts down on injuries to the sailfish. Our tournament does not condone or participate in the practice of killing sailfish, which is seen as taboo, by many of the professional anglers that fish our tournaments.

. As far as keeping them as trophies, most professional anglers only allow a photo to be taken with an anglers first sailfish catch, upon which the fish is returned to the sea. There are companies that make resin molded trophies (mounts) based on the photo for anglers to have as trophies.

A portion of our substantial charity dollars, goes back into the conservation of the fishery and education of anglers and boaters alike. If you visit our website, you can read about the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and the Guy Harvey Research Institute, with whom we have a close working relationship and share in their mission.
