The impressions are flawless but the writing is terribly second rate. And that's why Joe Conklin would / will never make it past Philly radio. It's the difference between a hack like him and someone like Frank Caliendo. Caliendo's impressions and facial expressions are so strong, he doesn't even need good lines to make it work. Conklin has a good voice and ear, but doesn't possess any subtly or wit. He often relies on cheap lines for the laugh. His writing is just bad.
