  • This may not be the right place for discussing this - but I think there was a plot hole in this movie (which is really insignificant, given that the film had a grander message) - here: when Hal locked Dave out, he could just propel the ship away, disallowing Dave to ever get back onboard ... no?

  • @Byron10301 Yes but Stanley Kubrick wouldn't never allow HAL to interfere in such a manner.

  • Dave: Open, the port main doors,Hal !

Hal: SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!

    **Dave is pulverized** - xD

  • @brendonbmg That's a good one but I am not savvy enough with After Effects to have made Dave's head explode.....someone must've done a HAL-Montana already.

  • I didn't know HAL was into real estate...

  • @PGMAMustDie better believe it....

  • @mckeehn That's a fair point :)

  • @Byron10301 Not really. HALs objective through all of this was to complete the mission. Which meant a return of Discovery to Earth at some point. Missions like this have very tight fuel calculations. It would be unlikely he could make a random burn, enough to accelerate beyond the pods fuel reserves, which he then would have to correct later with another burn to restore his trajectory to Jupiter, and still have enough fuel for the burn to get home.

  • hahahaha so good

  • This is amazing! Lol-worthy...

  • @Byron10301 That would have jeapordized the mission. So it wasn't a legitimate option.

  • Amazing to say the least :D

  • @Byron10301 I don't think so. Hal's rogramming made accomplishing the mission the most important order of business. He could exterminate the crew, but he still had to follow the timing and trajectory rto achieve him goal. That's part of Hal's madness!

  • genius. love it. thank you :D

.......... fuck you dave........... (that is gonna be my number one insult for some time to come)

  • This is what happens when 99% of HAL's memory is dedicated to ego-reinforcement.....
