Diogo S. Galhanone (brazilian 80's hard rock dinosaur) roll skills during red hot chili pepper's Purple Stain. Cymbals used: (Sabian) aa 20 rock ride, aax 20 china, aa 19 medium crash, aax 17 explosion crash. RMV Concept X5 drum set.
So I've been running around you tube trying to find shots of this outro and I have a question about the roll between the ride and snare that moves to the other cymbals. Are you doing single strokes the whole time? Do you think Chad Smith does it with singles on the cd? I saw another guy do it with doubles but I'm not sure if that's the way to do it. Your's sounds much more powerful like the original recording. Let me know and nice work!
Yes, that's a single stroke roll session, my friend. That's why it sounds so powerful. I don't think I'll have the opportunity to ask Chad Smith about how he did that (hehe), but doubles would just smooth the thing down, give it a more jazzy feeling, but that's not the idea here, right? Neil Peart in the end of "Vapor Trails" song gets heavy on a single stroke roll session as well. Triplets and then ordinary fours... Perfect and beautiful and powerful. Rock!
