  • canarios are not good as pets, they are too wild and will destroy your house within the first year, impossible for them to be happy in a city

  • my podengo is not so big :DD he is cute :)

  • @79pejeperro It really depends on the lifestyle of the owner. People say the same thing about Border Collies, but my apartment is intact. Why? Because I train my dog and take him running for 4+ miles every day.

Environment is important, but commitment is more so when it comes to dog ownership.

  • @clrp Yesterday I went to the forest with my dog (3 year female boxer). After two kilometers I met a Brazilian girl who owns two dogs, a pit bull mix and ...guess? a 1 year old not rescued, sterilised, well treated and educated, podenco canario, which had decided to go his own way, probably found a rabbit trace, and didn´t appear after two hours searching and calling him. We left cause it was totally dark and I guess she went back to look for him today. This is a typical podenco pet story.Oh

  • @clrp Oh and one other thing, saying that this breed of dog cant be used as a pet, doesnt make you well educated on the subject of this breed, it just makes you ignorant.

  • @79pejeperro You have that the wrong way round, raise a dog from a puppy and its a lot easier to teach him new things and bring him up compatible with the home he is in, but get a dog from rescue and you are changing the traits he thought was normal. Oh and for your information, my dogs are both 4 yrs old not pups. Home destructon is not a Podenco trait its a badly trained and badly mind-stimulated dog.

  • @clrp A 5-7 year old podenco who has hunted, ran, been used as a hunting tool and been badly treated and then rescued will obviously behave, and will be the most loyal dog you can imagine. As any rescued dog. But get a puppy and try to rise in the UK, where the weather won´t let you have much outdoor activity, he will not hunt, not run as much as he would like to... Home destruction. And let me tell you that nowadays hunters are very proud of their dogs and the breed, and take care of them.

  • @79pejeperro I have two Podenco Canario's here in the U.K, both rescued from Lanzarote, and they both make fantastic pets, as do all the ones i know that are over here. They will chew things in your home no more than any breed left indoors with no exercise or stimulated learning. You talk rubbish.

  • @nadiaribes i´m fron the canary islands, i´ve treated and hunted with podencos canarios since i was a child, no one in europe knows them better than me. they are tough and resistant, need much exercise. maybe the podencos in europe are selected for their sweeter character to be raised as pets, but real podencos are pure instinct and power. greetings from tenerife
