Paten Research
Welcome back to The Secret of Successful Inventors video blog by John R Hobbs. No matter where youre at the invention process this video blog series will help you. If you have brand new idea that you are just starting to work on, or an idea already on the market this VB series will help you succeed. So whether you are just starting or in some other phase, such as, prototype, developing a business plan, engineering, patent process, finding team, trademark, manufacturing, branding or raising capital or any of the other number of things that are required to become a successful inventor this video blog a will help you waste less time and money getting to market and making a profit.
The number of US Patents applied for each year is staggering (over 440,000). The sad truth is only 54% (236700) of patent applications are approved *1 and 99.8% (236226.2) of approved patents fail.*2 This means 473.4 of the approved patents make money for the inventor. Anyone that follows the simple steps in the new book, "The Secret of Successful Inventors", dramatically increase their odds of reaping a profits in less time with less wasted money. Author/inventor John R Hobbs reveals the "missing secrets" all inventors need to become successful!
First, as best as you can research patents online at www.uspto.gov, www.google.com/patent and/or at a Patent and Trademark Depository Library (PTDL) of which there are about 60 in cities around the country. The list is found at http://www.uspto.gov/go/ptdl/ptdlib_1.html. It will take several hours to start really developing a knack for finding the appropriate reference patents no matter what resource you decide to use all of which offer tools to help you work through the process.
My personal recommendation is to do the online research using the research guide below then go to an PTDL. They have highly skilled assistance readily available for you. You should also plan to spend the whole day there.
To do a patent search the first thing you need to do is either open or down load a .pdf file called Classes Arranged in Alphabetical Order. Go to http://www.uspto.gov/patents/resources/classification/index.jsp on the US Patent and Trademark web site and click on Classes Arranged in Alphabetical Order.
http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/classification/. This is the patent search form where you will put in the number of you class. (see example below) Then click submit.
A lot more info in book!!
This will conclude your patent search steps. Good Luck!
An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.
