ABOUT THIS FILM: Barack Obama returns to his family's roots on an emotional journey to Kisumu, Kenya - land of his father - in this new documentary.

Part personal odyssey and part chronicle of diplomacy in action, this timely documentary follows Senator Barack Obama as he travels to the land of his ancestry. From South Africa to Kenya to a Darfur refugee camp in Chad, Obama explores the vast continent that is gaining increasing importance in this age of globalization.

The heart of the film is Obama's emotional homecoming to Kisumu, Kenya - his father's former home - where thousands of people turn out to greet him. In South Africa, we follow Senator Obama on a trip to Robben Island - the infamous prison where Nelson Mandela was jailed for 21 years. At a Darfur refugee camp in Chad, we see, through Obama's eyes, the devastating effects of genocide.

Throughout it all, Senator Obama narrates the film, giving his own perspective on the journey and the significance of Africa to U.S. interests.

Additional perspective is included through interviews with experts on African affairs as well as with U.S. political commentators.

  • @oluwalogbon58 The reason I don't call myself African is because That was the name given to the continent after it was conquered. The continent is named after the man whom conquered it.When did Africa mean a race of people?

  • You may be right that Europeans have done bad things in history, but you seem to blame them for all the ills of the world. What of Africans who sold fellow Africans into slavery? (And continue to do so today). Your view is simplistic. And the idea that "Africa civilized Athens" would be RIDICULED in any university. I don't want to go back and forth like this anymore. You have your opinion, and you're welcome to it. Hope you expand your horizons one day (instead of telling others to do the same).

Your right we should just leave their resources alone and their people to their own fates. However even through you know all of this stuff what are you going to do to change it?

  • @id493337: Have you heard of a people living on a dollar a day, would you call that slave labour?? I would. If some one came to you house and stole all your possessions, what would you call the person?? I would call them a Thief. Then if some one came to your country and wanted to buy your resources, and with the money aquired you invest in building schools & unfra structure and develope bring in foreign exchange to further create proper paying Jobs people could start to be lifted out of poverty

  • @maria610421

What do you mean by cheap slavery? Like we don't house them and feed them like we use to? I don't really get why it matters if their resources are exploited they never use them, well besides food and water. Also I doubt it matter what race they are Africa is weak that why people exploit them.

  • @id493337: America & Europe as white nations have always acted against Black Africa, they do very little for Africa they are used as a sorce of cheap slave labour, and their resources is exploited. The Government of those African states have little or no rights in their own country and the people have even less. it all to do with Clonialism Exploitation, and greed. Int the UN Security Council France America, Russia China, and Britain alll Gang up on the rest of the world, they act together.

  • @maria610421

I am not really bright but I know that america is in the west, so how does America have anything to do with what Europeans and Chinese do to Africans? I don't even know why we should try to help them.

  • @cyclohexane1

Well so far he seems like he don't know what he been doing, he is a chronic liar and so far he even been worse then bush with the economy, That saying something but I get what you mean. He probably still better then john McCain or Hillary Clinton, I guess.

  • @id493337 am excited that he won, the same way one is excited when their team wins a championship. After a while you go back to living your life. I will critique him after 4 years in the voting booth like everyone else.

  • @cyclohexane1

I know it been two years, and I wonder are you still excited about Obama?

  • this is interesting !
