Would it be better lower the red sponge(?)? My turtles like to apply a bit of force when rubbing their shells. If you lower it a bit it might be possible to push against it from the bottom of the pond...

Fantastic!! Beware of the bristles on the brush, the head has to be the moulded-plastic kifd of broom head, not the kind where bristles can fall out, and always supervise the turtle, just in case they are wondering what it tastes like.

We had observed the turtle trying to scratch its back on the black pipe you can see running around the bottom of the tank (which is actually the solar water heating system), so we experimented with providing him another surface to scratch on, and voila!!
