Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationist organisations often misrepresent evolution by stating that it does not explain the origin of life. This is a dishonest tactic. Of course the theory of evolution doesn't explain the origin of life. It is not supposed to. The origin of life or abiogenesis is within the field of chemistry not biology. Evolution explains the diversity of life within the field of biology not chemistry.

Neil deGrasse Tyson takes us on a journey. A journey towards life of Earth.

  • @copetearg Serious question. Do you know what an "organic" molecule actually is?

  • @iamdk007 No it isn't

  • @djarm67 organic molecule are those molecules composed by H and C.

  • Life could have arrived on Earth in comets.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. I get the world's greatest astrophysicist talking about the field of chemistry that is the prequel to the field of biology,

  • @kurayamisidekick Right. That was I trying to say due to limitation of 500 characters, in the original comment :))) But these four elements and few others builds organic material for a reason, because their high electronegativity (and of course some other properties). It is enough strong fact for me that laws of physics, chemistry and mathematics have created life by spontanious reactions. Everithing just fits in :)

  • @pijanecX You are right, no element is organic, because they are elements. Organic/inorganic can only be used to describe molecules. Inorganic matter is also susceptible to many reactions due to differences in temperature, pressure, electromagnetic waves, although less so than organic material. But organic is a man-made definition of molecules mostly made or carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen.

  • @kurayamisidekick we call this organic cause it is used within lifeforms, carbon isn't organic, oxygen isn't organic niether hydrogen is organic, this is all inorganic building blocks, so organic is made form inroganic, reason why compounds from these element form organic matter is in their electro affinity to make bonds to each other or to other compounds/elements, and these bonds can be controlled through temperature, pressure or by using waves from electro spectrum (electricity, light)

  • @pijanecX Organic materials are molecules, not elements. Organic and inorganic materials are both made of elements. Essentially, all organic molecules are carbon-based compounds, with at least one carbon linked to usually hydrogen, oxygen, or nitrogen, with a few exceptions. Methane is an organic molecule. Oil ( a triglyceride) is an organic molecule. Diesel is an organic molecule. Crystals that you find in rocks are inorganic.

  • @HitfulVids There's a video by cdk007 entitled "The Origin of Life - Abiogenesis - Dr. Jack Szostak". It's a great vid. Highly recommended. :)

  • @pijanecX no problem

  • @jamaicanification nice one :)
