Grey's Anatomy Hmong

I put these clips together from the popular tv drama, Grey's Anatomy. It features a "Hmong" girl needing surgery and her family not allowing one until they call her soul back. A Hmong shaman flies in via helicopter to perform a healing ritual in the hospital. A little silly, but its just television.

When I first saw this episode on TV, I thought it was so interesting. And I was surprised that for such a long time, no one had it up on youtube, so I decided to put it up. Enjoy! And feel free to voice your opinions. :)

FYI: The only actual Hmong person shown in the clip is the shaman. The rest are Hollywood actors paid to portray a Hmong family. Although they didn't use real Hmong people on the show, it doesn't change the storyline. The doctors on the show are not real surgeons either. It's not a big deal. It's called TV. The point of the show is the medical cases, not what kind of people they cast to play the characters.

Thank you to everyone for their interest in my video. To answer a common question... The clips from this video were taken from Season 2, episode 5 of Grey's Anatomy titled, "Bring the Pain." What you see in my video is all that they show about the Hmong girl and her family. The rest of the episode deals with the doctors' relationships with each other and other patients. That's REALLY what the show is about.

This is the stupidest portrayal of Hmong people I have ever seen. When the white doctor says "hmong" better than the actress....that's just fawking stupid! not to mention the whole "the shaman is never late," way to slip in the most stereotypical Asian line ever!!!!!

They should have used Hmong actors. and made it a little more realistic if it happened in my family we would have to translate to kuv niam about what was happening. Bothers me hearing them say "mung" instead of Hmong.

What a crock of shit...LOL. The father looks so "Triad" like smoking that cigar and wearing that 3000 dollar suit. No hmong would spend that amount of money for shit like that, they be more worry about how to fuck'n save their daughter's life. That fool didn't even having the slightest bit of worry for his daughter. Shaman 500 miles away...you kidding me...where the fuck do you live? Helicopter? shaman at hospital? Yeah right, it don't work that way.

@meejka doesn't that really depends only if the spirit choose you to be a shaman...so it is 50/50 on females or males....I know a few females and males that are shamans...

"how long does it take to received a lost soul?" Its is about 2-4 hours + i think...depends...if the shaman go into the spirit world and the situation. Dont the shaman need to do the healing ritual in front of the ritual/ancestor shine if it really serious?? It is kinda funny because when they say it in english "missing her soul" it sound so weird and funny, but in hmong it sound sooo normal for me...I think in english they should of said "lost soul"...
