Viewing a diverse Bay Area ecosystem can be as simple as a trip to the beach. Marine tidepools display a fascinating world of interdependent species with unique adaptations. The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is an excellent place to find just such a habitat.

  • On busy low tide weekends over 2000 people per day visit the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve tide pools. Paths are worn down in the reef due to heavy foot traffic. Only one or two County employees are on duty during busy low-tide weekends The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is designated as a protected reserve and that requires appropriate stewardship.
