The City of Midland, with a population of 40,000 people and home to the Tittabawassee and Chippewassee Rivers, is developing a recreation plan to serve as a guideline to improve recreation facilities and develop new recreational opportunities.
The planning process will take about five months to complete. The foundation of the goals in the plan will be based upon input from the citizens of Midland. The City intends to use the plan to guide their work on all future recreational and parks projects. It is also a strategic document that articulates specific goals to various agencies and organizations that fund parks and recreation improvement projects.
The plan will be developed in accordance to the guidelines for "Community Park, Recreation, Open Space, and Greenway Plans" published by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Completion of a five-year recreation plan will allow the City of Midland to pursue DNR-administered grants.
