@AlexYCChiu Dont come to her page then bitch, stick to the subject, your probably some BROKE person with no money...

Whether you go to college or not, it's blatantly obvious that some of you need to improve your spelling, and grammar !!! Please don't tell me that you're a college graduate and use " here " for " hear " , or "degress" for " degrees" , or even "deans" for "Dean's ".
-
You ask an important question. If you have the cash up front and know why you want a degree then I advise you to go. If it means debt, and/or you don't know exactly why you want a degree, I think you shouldn't. Capital (money) is more important than a piece of worthless paper. I worked @ $9/hr for Macy's at Christmas time last year with 2 other holiday hires. I have no degree, but one of my associates was an electrician & the other was a 4 year college grad. None of us could find F/T work.

A degree is nothing but a piece of paper saying that you are stupid enough to spend thousand of dollars to be torture.
-
College degree never had value in the first place. It's a piece of paper and always will be a piece of paper. It only has value if some cock-sucker believes it has value.

@jls1114. I'd consider the life sciences as well. If one can become a psychologist, the job market is pretty decent asd well. The real void begins once entering the more "Artsy" sector due to a more saturated market. Women, especially, heavily over represent in that segment, but hardly in the STEM areas.
-
@leahsimur. You forgot chemistry, physics and the hard sciences. If you really think that those fields suffer from over saturation, I have a bridge to sell to you. Scientists can't be replaced with engineers, or research-inclined physicians.

@bsenghor1 Question: Why did you block me?
-
I could here you. Really important INFO.

I'll give you an example. I know an aspiring music producer who's saving up money for his home studio from the money he's saved up from practising as a lawyer! He's been able to invest in a lot more equipment than some of his musician friends who are currently doing 9-5s in a call centre. He's planning on taking a year out to focus on his music whilst they really can't afford to. Your career isn't dictated by what you study. Study something that requires a degree and not just experience.
-
In real life, It's not about what you want to do, it's about doing what's best for you. And on top of all this, many employers don't care what your degree is in. You're better off qualifiying in a field which actually requires a particular degree and training, even if you don't plan to do that as a career. To put it in perspective, an engineer can become a businessman, but a businessman can't become an engineer.
-
I was young and thought that If i became a lawyer, I'd be stuck in an office and courtroom for the rest of my life and I'll never get a chance to take a shot at my dream job in media. But in truth, It would have actually helped my career in media if I studied law in the first place. If you've got a job as an engineer, lawyer, or doctor, there's nothing stoping you from working for only a couple of years then taking a year or two out to try out your dream career.
-
Sorry, I didn't mean you should try out with the army, my point is this. Society doesn't admit that choosing the right degree is much more important that getting good grades. I made the worst decision of my life by choosing to study media journalism as opposed to Law. Now, newspapers are firing everyone and not only can I not get my foot in the door, but if I do, I'll be earning less than minimum wage. Now I'm trying to save up money to go back to uni to do a worthwile degree.
-
Add accounting to that list. A CPA exam eligible graduate has no problem finding a job. Lawyers are actually having a hard time finding jobs now!
-
ya I'm majoring in political science and im having 2nd thoughts
-
A business degree and a arts degree are worthless.
-
Why would you, when you must take on enormous amounts of debt, with many graduates receiving negative returns on their investment in a college education, why finance a pricey degree if you can't command a higher wage? I always hear that this is good debt. Could have fooled me. You can see the world or purchase a flat screen plasma or stuff your closet with designer clothing and then go file for bankruptcy. Your school loans will never be discharged through bankruptcy. This is the riskiest debt!

Education was until recently the great equalizer. Higher education offered almost anyone economic mobility if they would be willing to put in the work. The financial barriers that have become built up around this institution have given tremendous advantages to those who just do not need them. I see doors open and opportunities for those who do not need them or do not deserve them. For example, rewarding illegitimate mothers with all sorts of support and school grants doesn't seem fair.

A degree has always reflected the amount of value you can bring to a company. However, the world has become much more competitive (equal), so adding value relative to your peers has become more difficult. People are inherently selfish, so non-imitable value will be bid against in salary terms by different companies.
Remember, wealth is not created or destroyed, but is merely transfered.

I saw an article somewhere that said a BACHELORS doesn't have the effect it used to, but if you step up to a MASTERS, then things are different. SOME employers raised the standards to limit the amount of applications they get since a bachelors is so common now. I don't remember what the article was, though. Otherwise I'd link it in this message.
The only degrees that you should bother with are ones that have training at the end of it. Engineering, Medicine or Law. Don't bother doing anything else. You're better off training to get into the army cause you're guaranteed a job when you get through training.

i agree with u , although alot of these choices you are talking about especially the army is not something this is an open choice for me. i am blind in one eye. it makes things a lot more complicated of a situation for me
