Scar revision tutorial: Dallas facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Lam discusses the principles of scar revision for cosmetic camouflage, including geometric broken line repair, w-plasty, and z-plasty. raumatic facial scarring can be a disfiguring and psychologically disturbing problem. Many types of scarring can occur. For example, a very raised, sometimes itchy scar that arises may indicate that a keloid has formed. These types of scars are more predominant in darker skinned individuals like African-Americans and respond to excision followed by repeated steroid injections until they settle down. Wider, slightly raised, or depressed scars are usually amenable to excision and reconstruction. Dr. Lam performs the most meticulous scar excision using a whole range of techniques depending on the type of scar, its location, and the type of skin of the individual. Dr. Lam's expertise in the face and in reconstructive facial techniques permits the most suitable approach to help reduce the unsightliness of your scar. If the scar is contracted, i.e., bunched up and shortened, nearby facial structures can be affected, like pulling on the lip, eyelid, or nose. Dr. Lam employs a special type of scar revision that permits him to lengthen the scar to release the deformity on neighboring tissues. The most advanced scar revision that he performs in the select individual is known as a "geometric broken-line repair" that requires alignment of miniaturized different shapes, which is followed 6 weeks later by mechanical dermabrasion, to provide the optimal camouflage for your scar. Only after a detailed consultation with Dr. Lam will you begin to understand which procedure might be best for you.

Dr. Lam is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has authored three major facial plastic surgery textbooks, including Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation: A Practical and Systematic Guide to the Aging Face, Cosmetic Surgery of the Asian Face, and the recently published Complementary Fat Grafting. Dr. Lam has also published over 100 book chapters and scientific articles on the subject of facial plastic surgery and lectures nationally almost on a monthly basis on facial plastic surgery. Hello,

The reason you could have stretch marks show upon your skin could be due to the fact that your muscles are growing. Every professional body builder has to rub some sort of cream or stretch mark ointment on their body to prevent the appearance of stretch marks. This is normal especially if you are new to bodybuilding or any weight training program. Just go and buy some stretch mark cream before it becomes worse. Good Luck and don't worry

  • use liquid vitamin E apply it dirtectly to the scar and in time the redness will go away and always use sunscreen

  • I have the strangest skin, possibly anyone has ever heard of. When I was a kid I got hit by a car, the doctor said the scar should be 100% gone in 10 years (I was maybe 6 or 7 years old. Later on, and I've never really noticed this before, I realize I have lots of stretch marks? It's werid because I'm a relatively skinny person, I've never been overweight. The other day I did squats, and a few days later I have stretch marks on my quadriceps and knees, What the hell!?

  • I have the same problem, my scar is 1 year old now, big and red and ugly. Also really thick, its like half an inch thick, what to do

  • he's not gonna do that. he 's too afraid to get mugged

  • it $200 to 1000.look at cosmetic surgery phil.u will see there

  • Can surgical scars on face take longer than a year to mature or does it stop maturing after 1 year? I ask cos a year has elapsed and redness still present.

  • I hope he visits Manila so I could ask for consultation. I have a very cross-shaped scar on my forehead and the other one on the left side of nose across eye level
