The Austin Komei Jyuku dojo did a demonstration of MJER Iaijutsu at the Austin Martial Arts Festival 2008. We did various waza including chuden (hayanuki), tsume-iai, and toho.

  • interesting, not thought about doing hayanuki etc standing up, but no reason not to. I usually also do tsume ai no kurai kneeling... any reason for standing up? Maybe to let the audience see better? just curious...

  • We choose tachi waza over tatehiza for two main reasons:

    1) even though the stage was off the ground, it was a big open space and we wanted everyone to be able to see

    2) one of our guys has a bad knee

  • I haven't watched this in a while, I really need to do something about my posture.

  • hahaha!! very good! I thought as much!

  • Wow chuden hayanuki in standing version instead of in tate hiza. Nice move & so fluid, even with such a long shinken.

The Tsume Iai kumitachi in also wonderful. Thanks for the video & Texas Komei Jyuku !

  • Absolutely beautiful. Great performance, technique and talents.
