From the Bingham Era of WHAS-TV.

Elements of Action11 @6 from August
1982. WHAS-TV was slowly transitioning away from Al Ham & Walter Liss' "Move Closer To Your World" To Gari's "Hello News" and image package (which happened later that same year).

-Note the first gen digital video transitions (SqueeZoom), the brown set, and the mix of both Chyron/VidiFont and slides.
The primary v/o was John Polk.

Included are an advert for Big O Tires, a full Chuck Taylor (RIP) weathercast, Dave Conrad, and Pittsburghers take note, a young John Shumway....

  • Thanks for posting this video. Do you have any clips of WLKY and WAVE from 1982. Also, do you have anymore news videos from the 1980s?

  • No video from 32Alive or WAVE, alas. But I do have a few others form that era... Keep watching....

  • I believe the that the Circle 11 was phased in round May of 1982.

  • Chuck Taylor used to be on WTEV-6 (now WLNE) in New Bedford/Providence in the 70s.

  • Wow! This takes me way back. This was when Louisville was the AAA team for Saint Louis and Nashville was Cincinnati's AAA team. Been a long time. Thanks for posting this. I still miss Chuck Taylor. He was a class act.

  • I grew up with Chuck Taylor, RIP.

  • Do you have the clip of the Indiana man charged with a hit and run death of an Austin Indiana boy that Jackie mentioned at the beginning?

  • i cant wait until they come out with those green and black computer screens!!

  • @tvpirate05 Yeah, but every blasted one of them used "Action" in their title for whatever reason. Kinda like how every news program today touts itself as High Definition and Live (we kinda get the idea that it's live if it's the news =P)

  • I love watching late-70s/early-80s newscasts, for the utter simplicity of everything, i.e. tan walls (with the occasional TV console).

The desks look like something out of an early-80s game show. :-)

  • In regards to the special report... wow, I can't wait until I can use one of those electronic banking machines myself!

  • I sat on that set many a time. Loved Kirstie Wilde -- any videos of her newscast available?

  • Eastern time, it's hard to tell the actual eastern/central line in kentucky but the line of eastern and central usually goes about a 1/4 down kentucky then makes a diagonal to the right. It's hard to explain, but you should get the idea.
