Product piracy costs companies around the world billions every year. Firms invest a lot of time and money in the development of their products - which pirates can then copy cheaply and easily.
Made in Germany accompanies customs officials at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt. Investigators focus on searching for counterfeit products which they then withdraw from circulation. We listen in as manufacturers report on the damage they incur as a result of piracy. Report by Dan Hirschfeld
There is a lot more that the likes of Google can be doing to support the whistleblowing process and the fight against sellers of counterfeit goods.
Public awareness: the reporting hotline for the country could be hosted directly and obvious in the Google main web search page, the Google main shopping search page, and again in the Google search results pages. The same for the warning messages “BEWARE FAKES” “REPORT FAKES” and a "Watch this clip before you buy!" video clip embedded alongside.
