Would anyone miss you? Nobody noticed when Joyce Vincent died in her bedsit above a shopping mall in North London in 2003. Her body wasn't discovered for three years, surrounded by Christmas presents she had been wrapping, and with the TV still on. Newspaper reports offered few details of her life-- not even a photograph.

Interweaving interviews with imagined scenes from Joyce's life, Dreams of a Life is an imaginative, powerful, multilayered quest, and is not only a portrait of Joyce but a portrait of London in the eighties—the City, music, and race. It is a film about urban lives, contemporary life, and how, like Joyce, we are all different things to different people. It is about how little we may ever know each other, but nevertheless, how much we can love.

again very well put. Its the way the world works nowadays- everyone is so wrapped up in their rat race and any social need is so superficial that its easily filled by facebook. What I find on an everyday basis dealing with people is that their priorities have very much shifted in a majhor way in just the space of a few years. Its more important to tweet a bunch of strangers some random thought than to actually engage with, let alone be courteous to- the people that you are in the same room with.

dgm bra,,what a sad comment, you must be very lonely or bitter about your life perhaps,,i am not saying you have to know everyone on your block or in your building, but there is nothing wrong with reaching out to people and checking on elderly neighbors who may have no one left to talk to.

i have done this many times in my life for people and i have yet to regret it or be turned away once.

and if the day comes when i am turned away,it would not bother me,i know i've done the right thing

This reminds of a similar case about an 85 year old woman in Edinburgh who lay undiscovered for 5 years. It's tragic how people can go unoticed for so long, they must have family somewhere. All I can say is RIP to all people who have gone and not been discovered for some time. (Hopefully there's not too many people that it's happeneed too).
