I've already shown the west side of State Street: the huge vacant lots left when Robert Taylor was demolished.
Now I'm showing the homes and businesses across the street. You present and former Bronzeville folks will recognize DuSable High School, Parker House Sausage, and a recent arrival, the Ain't that Sweet Cafe.
So many are gone that I remember from my childhood, especially the Burger King at 48th and State where my father hated to take us because a Whopper cost the astronomical sum of 45 cents. (Remember, this was the mid-1960's, when you could get two McDonald's burgers, fries and a shake and get change back from a dollar!)
The large ivory-colored building at 55th Street is the former Butternut Bread bakery. After being at this location for 103 years, the low-carb fad closed it forever in 2005.
Then it's a drive north on Wabash to 48th Street.
I had to turn the sound off at about 4:10. The sound of fire engine sirens was just a little too much.
is that supposed to be hood?

@mbazell Where in Hyde Park? I was raised a little farther south from you in South Shore and used to go to Dr. Schorr, his office was in that big 10+ story building right there on the corner of 53rd & Lake Park.

@gvran71 you suck for even thinking that. We can talk about the white ghettos as well?

sucks that the blacks have ruined all the great old south side neighborhoods in Chicago. The Hispanics are taking care of the rest. Welfare and public housing turned out to be huge social blunders.

I grew up in Hyde Park during the 50's and 60's. I've been gone since 1976. The only thing I recognize are some of the old brown stone and brick buildings. The projects of the 60's were the worst thing to happen to Chicago. Nice tape. Brings back memories, some good, some bad...life goes on.

Yeah, it is, I was looking through artistmac's other videos and he does have a 1979 Caprice Classic coupe. It's in really nice condition. I was going to say an Olds Delta 88 or Buick Regal, but it's neither.
