Uriah Heep - July Morning (1971)

July Morning è il brano di punta di Look At Yourself (1971), terzo album degli Uriah Heep, che dopo un avvio abbastanza duro (probabilmente ispirato alla svolta dei Deep Purple con In Rock]) cominciarono a diversificare la proposta, accettando di rivolgersi a un pubblico più di nicchia. Il risultato è un album molto progressive, che viene tutt'ora considerato dai più come il loro prodotto più sofisticato e meno commerciale. Anche nei dettagli c'era una ricerca di innovazione: la copertina dell'album aveva un riquadro centrale ritagliato e chiuso posteriormente da un foglio metallizzato lucido, così che il messaggio nel titolo dell'album fosse realmente diretto a chi lo aveva in mano. La leggera ondulazione dell'improvvisato specchio deformava l'immagine riflessa, e infatti sul retro figurano i ritratti dei membri del gruppo deformati allo stesso modo.
July Morning è un pezzo lungo oltre 10', nella tradizione di quel periodo (quando grazie al cielo non c'erano tempi da videoclip da rispettare), che esalta le capacità vocali di David Byron. Gli ultimi 4" del pezzo sono piuttosto psichedelici: alla stessa frase musicale, ripetuta all'infinito, si sovrappone in crescendo una sua interpetazione in chiave decisamente ...lisergica.
