Many thanks for putting Ernest on here with that great song and videos. I was fortunate enough to have grown up in the era of these magnificent machines. Like the singers of yesteryear, each had it's own personality. Not like that any more. No more greats like Ernest and the three Hanks and many more.
THIS BRINGS MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH WHEN LIVED 100 YARDS FROM THE RAILROADS OF GLASGOW. YES INDEEDY! I HEARD THE RUMBLE AND THE RATTLE ALRIGHT CLANKING CHAINS,THE CRASH OF BUMPERS THE SQUEAL OF BRAKES, THE CODED SIGNALS, OF THE ENGINE DRIVERS,THE SOUNDS OF FREIGHT CARS(ABOUT 20 OR 30 IN ALL) CRASHING INTO EACH OTHER AS THEY WERE HOOKED TOGETHER AND THIS WENT ON ALL DAY AND NIGHT! AH! THE GLORY DAY OF STEAM!!! RICHIE(SILVER1928)
this song brings back memories of my dad. we used to dance to this song in our living room.he taught me to dance as I stood on his feet every saturday night. oh how I miss those times.
There is a sound that is indescribable.and that's the whistle of and steam engine.I heard my first one in Old Tucson studios.Man i under stand why some many country singer play song about the train.
According to LPDiscographydotcom this is from the 1960 album, All Time Hits. Wabash Cannonball was recorded Oct 25, 1960. That would date it to Buddy Emmons.

Yes. Besides these video's having good audio, I'm really enjoying all the old film that's included.

To me, Wabash Cannonball is THE great American country song. With apologies
to Roy Acuff, I think this version by old ET is as good as any I've heard.
