The difficulty is alot harder than the arcade as some key elements had to be removed due to the Hucard's limitations, that includes the shuriken bonus stage
@KesMonkey Most of the time&I do know what"Scrolling" means do you mean I should have said"Independently Scrolling Backgrounds"either way It means the same thing&I'm not sure I know what a"Trump"is hopefully you were trying to say"Triumphs over"but yeah the TurboGrafX-16's limitations made for interesting conversation back in the day however it tried, the games were decent but they sort of fell short of true 16-Bit standards,Scrolling Backgrounds was a given for all true 16-Bit machines & Games.
Why do people overlook the fact the TurbografX-16 had a Big,Big problem with Parallax,Multi-dimensional scrolling backgrounds?I try my best to defend the system by saying that it had a very, very powerful 8-bit CPU & that it's capable of producing Huge Characters with large Sprites but when you see an arcade title like this with no scrolling backgrounds it sorta' Kicks you in the ass,it couldn't do Mode-7 so no bonus stages but at least scrolling backgrounds it was supposed to mimic16-Bit,DAMN!!!
Such a disappointing conversion, given the PC Engine's potential and record of flawless conversions. Some are actually better than the original arcade!
Mission 2 was removed? No bullets or close contact weapons? This makes the difficulty insane! No speech, voices or bonus stages and some game animation/effects are missing too.
As others pointed out already, laziness or bad programming is at fault, not the console. Still it's far better than the dreadful Atari ST and Amiga versions though.
FIRST pc engine game that I played. It was over 2 decades ago.

@Ahmadu100 "no scrolling backgrounds". I don't think you understand what scrolling means. Also, gameplay always trumps graphics. Always.

The sms and nes both had worse limitations, but look what they managed.
SMS version for the win like.
Rom rom version would have solved any limitation problems, then again ,look at golden axe .
