This USA Today report was from earlier this year as the economy continues to crumble and unemployment continues to rise. We havent seen shanty towns since the 30s and itdoesnt seem like things are going to get better anytime soon.
@andywire2 Good point. There are jobs out there, just they might pay minimum wage but jobs they are. If I had no other choice, I would have no problem workin at Taco Bell for $8 an hour... sign me up!
Well, hope everyone is happy with their "service based economy". Jobs at Walmart have not done a good job of replacing the good paying ones at General Motors. Those who have too much pride to take a low paying job won't fair too well in this new economy. The government and corporate America have made the bed, and now we must sleep in it.
This will be a widespread reality for most Americans when the world moves toward another reserve currency. Then the real depression will start for us. Why do you think Ben Bernanke was chosen to run the Fed? He is an expert on the Great Depression.
omg if the future of america is to live in tent then i'm well prepare for it. i was born to live in a thailand refugee camp so i got use to it before. i'll probably get use to it again once that time comes (for me that is). right now i'm enjoying of what i had left of my life and helping my family survive the recession.
@TheShoelaceBandit ,..interesting thing to say on the internet,.. living in a tent and camping for a weekend is not at all the same thing ,.. but if ya want a taste ,.. take 15 dollars only and 3 changes of clothes,.. go to walmart or wherever you choose, buy only your 15 dollars worth of supplies and live on it for say 5 days for a family of 4
More to come people, there will be thousands of tent cities around the US by next year..there is a total economic melt down coming our way..prepare now!
This is bad...

Living in a tent would be freedom for me. No bills! No mortgage! Living on very little money. I think that we chain ourselfs down with STUFF.
