Miracle of Life -- Piglet birth

Daisy delivers one of many piglets Aug. 31 at the Miracle of Life exhibit at the Michigan State Fair. The Michigan State University veterinarians, and students in training, are wonderful in explaining the process and all about the animals with fairgoers. The piglets weigh between 2 and 4 pounds at birth and double their size in a week. They usually get to be as big as their mother, in this case about 500 pounds. Fairgoers can pet baby animals.

why does she have to give birth on that cage?! Come ON people! poor pig, she's probably really stressed out - with a croud of screaming people, and very uncomfortable! looks like she couldn't even move.

The cages are used in farms to protect their young and the pig.

although, it must be terrible having the crowd making noise and distressing it, still. AWH PIGLETS :}

@1lilleth I don't like the metal bottom cage floors either:/ but the reason domestic pigs give birth in these cages is because they have a tendency to crush or impale the piglets with their hooves as they get up and move around between pigs, its a horrible thing to witness, happened to us once on our farm when she went early and we lost all but two of the 14 ( yea thats alot) babies, either crushed or ran through my mamma, it was a horrible day.

I don't like that she has to be on this metal thing, she should lie in straw or grass outside. and then there are so many people who shout out loud- thats not so nice for her. think about you would be in her position. and why they take the baby away from her right after birth?.... I don't like this video, sorry... poor pigs.
