TOMO OHIRA - PURIST, PRODIGY, PERFECTIONIST, LEGEND.

Tomo Ohira - The Whirlwind, The Prodigy ... The Mozart of Street Fighter 2.
Tomo wasn't just playing the game, but creating it as he went along. A totally elevated plateau of play.
To say Tomo zoned players is an understatement - he could pick any position onscreen and totally reign from it.
Tomo would've ranked at the very least 3rd if He'd competed in Japan back then.
As it stands, He completely ruled American SF2 from 91 - 94 (Super SF2) retiring at the staggering age of just 17 ... unconquered & unsurpassed.

Video uses segments of material from SRK & alt.games.sf2 forums ranging from 1994-2010.
Also parts of Jeff Schaefers YT Vids/Vlogs, Tomo's 2009 Interview for EVO with Watson & the 1993 Gamepro HF Strat Guide.
Music is Outkast's GIT UP GIT OUT (1994)

It may look corny, but I'd be just as psyched if I got to play Tomo.

  • i wanna see tomo play man this is just a bunch of tutorial vids

  • I sent this video to Tomo. I'm sure he's going to get a kick out of it.

  • anyone remember how much you would get if you had won a ST tournament in the 90's? What is it today?

  • @GFBNews

I hope you realize that Daigo got smoked, at his prime, in Hyper Street Fighter by Jeff Schaffer. Though not tourney matches, Daigo wasn't fucking around and still got perfect multiple times...

  • @ninjagrinder I used to read about Tomo and Watson back in the day on my gamepro magz (that I still own!) and everytime I read something about those 2 guys or watch any footage about them, I feel like I was there. Long life to OG sf players. Now it's just business and clowns trying to get sponsored. These guys (Jeff, Tomo, Watson) played with real passion for the game!

  • Dude, this was really entertaining to watch. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together. I'm only 30, and I have never lived in the US, but reading about this stuff makes me so nostalgic.
