main ne samjhaa tha ki tuu hai to darakhshaan hai hayaat
tera gham hai to gham-e dahar ka jagrha kiya hai

(When i thought you alone illuminated this entire universe
And because of you the sorrows of life did not matter.)

terii surat se hai aalam mein bahaaron ko sabaat
teri aankon ke seva duniya mein rekha kiya hai..

(...When i thought your beauty gave permanence to the colors of spring.
And your eyes were the only stars in the universe...)

tu jo mil jaaye to taqdir niguun ho jaaye
yun na tha main ne faqat chaha tha yun ho jaye...

(...When i thought if i could only make you mine,destiny would forever be in my hands.)

( on the dark loom of centuries,woven in to silk, damask and gold cloth is the oppresive enigma of our lives...)

jaa bejah biktay hoye kuucha-o-bazaar main jism
khak main lithrey hoye khoon main nehlaye hoye...

( Everywhere - in the valleys and bazaars - human flesh is being sold)

laut jati hai udher ko bhi nazar kiya kejiye

( Throbbing between layers of dust, bathed in blood,the furnace of poverty and disease disgorges body after body...)

ab bhi dilkash hai tera husn mager kiya kejiye..

( your beauty is still a river of gems)

aur bhi dukh hain zamanay main mohabbat ke siva
rahatein aur bhi hain wasal ki raahat ke siva...
