Red Rum's Song, a tribute to the great race horse Red Rum, recorded at Strawberry Studios, Stockport, Manchester. Performed by Chris Swann, Trevor James, Robin & Cheryl.
I am the producer of the record, and it was released on Pye Records in 1979.
The song contains the original BBC radio commentary of Red Rum's third Grand National victory, by the late Peter Bromley.
This is home movie footage I filmed of the singers of the song meeting Red Rum at Aintree racecourse for a press & TV call.
Red Rum's trainer Ginger McCain, a very nice guy, arranged the day especially for us and brought "Rummy" to Aintree for the occasion.
Although it was originally thought he would race that year, he never did.

  • A note for the misguided - AINTREE IS NOT IN LIVERPOOL. .

  • The tune is called sometimes..it was the title music to "Champions" the story about Bob Champion and Aldeniti.

  • red rum r.i.p. greatest race horse to ever live. 3 grand nationals in a decade, what an achievement,.

  • this is pretty cheesey but in the sweetest possible way! i feel unlucky to have never seen him in person or on live tv... i was only 2 when he died, 15 years ago! i still love this horse though. he has such a lovely expression i really enjoy drawing him :) cannot wait the the Grand National this year! i hope Comply Or Die runs a good race, 1st in 2008 and 2nd last year. no horse will be better than old Rummy, but Comply Or Die i hope will try! xxxxxx

  • Thank you for the video, a wonderful horse galloping still around heaven.
