@supercruiser24 Na the generator spins up the MG sets to charge the batteries when not motoring and provide heat and light for the train which is the CEP!

I remember this line well! When I started on BR in 1974 as a secondman we had two shifts that Faversham worked there. The early turn was pass on the paper train.... does not look the same as it did at 6 in the morning trundelling down on a class 08/09 with a dozen 16 ton coal wagons, freezing cold, at the reckless speed of 20 mph going to the pit and the return journey with the loaded wagons at 4 mph back to Shepherds Well to make the trains up for later in the day.

The above claim is incorrect as the Eden Valley Railway has two MLV's and a 4CEP in multi that run on electric only!

@DanielW118 i thought that the MLV's at the EVR ran using a diesel generator that provided power for the electric motors,the EPBPG's MLV uses battery, apologies for the incorrect claim
