Two versions of the arcade game Strider. The older version reuses music from the first stage.

  • Dave Strider?

  • Ok so where can the onther version with all the songs intact becuz I cant find it?

  • @VirtualSnes007

Depends on how you played it. Every time you died the internal difficulty settings dropped a level. If you didn't die it got harder every few seconds until reaching the hardest difficulty possible.

The repeating music was actually particular to the Japanese version. When the American version hit our arcade a short time later all the music was intact.

I did. Many times over in fact. :)

Granted it was also one of the only games I played at the time.

I never used to continue either. I would finished it or die then start over from the beginning again.

Played it that way until Street Fighter 2 hit the arcades. To me Strider was/is really that good.

  • Actually, there is a glitch in some of the roms. The earlier rom set had a faulty sound rom dump and the "Raid" theme was repeated in some of the wrong stages. There's a second set that has a correct sound rom but for some reason the emulators don't recognize the music sequence that's supposed to play when the time is running out and end up playing Raid instead.

  • I also notice the final stage between the two versions...

One plays "Raid" (Stage 1 BGM) throughout the entire stage and the ending

The other has the tracks "Hiryu", "Theme For Counterattack" and "Meio"

  • Capcom/Digital Eclipse should've either used the earlier version of the Arcade ROM or at least use the PS1 ROM & to speed up loading times in which stages 3, 5, the fight with grandmaster & the ending music once you beat him were all different. That's what should have happened for Capcom Classics Collection: Volume 2 for XBox & PS2, & CCC: Remixed for PSP.

There was even remixed tracks on top of that (at least for the PS1 version; don't know about arcade). I still have it for PS1, luckily.
