This video will show you how to make calls using your WIFI through your home network or public hotspot, it will also show you how to make a call through your 3g (data connection) and bypass your Mobile carriers voice network. This is a perfect solution for people who have a no or little coverage in their homes or apartment!

If you live outside the U.S. This link provides a workaround for GoogleTalk. http://www.labnol.org/internet/get-google-voice-phone-number/18425/

Step 1. Go to Android Market and download Google Voice.

Step 2. Go to the web and log on to your Google Voice count and make sure you enable googlechat.

Step 3. Go to Android Market and download SipDroid. Clink the button that links your Pbxes to your Google Voice.

Step 4. Once you do step 3 , SipDroid would have created a Pbxes account and linked it to your Google Voice account. Now you will need to extract your some info (SIP credentials) You will need your Username,Password, and Server. Remember this info.

Step 5. Un-install SipDroid

Step 6. Now we need to log on into our Pbxes account. Go to www.pbxes.org . You will now need to enter in your Username and Password which you obtained from SipDroid before you un-installed it.

Step 7. Go to the left column and click on, "Personal". Input your all your information, make sure you do this or Pbxes will delete your account. Now go to the left column again and click on, "Extensions" and chose "Sipdroid200". All you really have to do on this page is just re-enter your password. Make sure you enter your GoogleVoice password this is very important so make sure you do this correctly.

Step 8. Now go to your Android Phone running CyanogenMod or ASOP version 2.3.5. If not update your phone to the latest OS.

Step 9. Go to settings on your phone, then go to phone settings and scroll all the way down until you see the native SIP calling. It will say, "Accounts" and "Internet Calling". Go to Accounts. Now add an account and enter in Username, Password, Server. Server will be pbxes.org. Go to options and make sure transport type is set to TCP, not udp.

Back out of this screen until you get to the screen that says "Receiving Calls". Your Phone will try to connect and should successfully do it unless you did something wrong.

You are ready to make a call. I have mine set up to where when I make a call it asks if I want to make a "Internet call" or "Cell Call".

  • how can it be done without cyanogenmod?

  • @learwbc if you are running android 2.3 or higher then it doesn't matter. Most android devices have a setting (call setting) and a checkbox for internet calls. If not then you will have to flash to a newer version of android or flash a rom.

  • Great video! I think I set up everything correctly, but when I try a call (even if I choose GV) the call routes through Verizon. The phone I'm experimenting with has no data plan or voice plan. Wanted to see if I could use it just for wifi calls. Am I missing something or is this not possible?

    Thanks again

  • Thanks for the compliment. I think google voice still needs to be used in the traditional way of calling. Even though it can be router by wifi it still sync to the number.

  • i cant setup my accont on my phone it always say registration failed (timeout)

  • @MrLymmlee, Can you make a response video so I can see whats going on?

  • i cant get on my Google voice account to enable my Google chat .

  • This didn't at first appear to work until I made a few changes:

Android settings > Call settings > Accounts > SIP account Username is your.google.id-200, note the "-200".

Google Voice settings > Making calls > Do not use Google Voice...

Android Call settings > Use Internet calling > Ask for each call.

This setup worked for me, thanks.

  • im on gingerbread, and theres no option to ask before making calls. im on sprint if this makes any difference. PLEASE HELP I CANT GET RECEPTION IN MY HOUSE!

  • @todjihad i'm on stock ics 4.0.2. haven't unlocked or rooted. with this particular device have to unlock before rooting, but i didn't want to do it right away after getting the device. was gonna wait a while. it's the samsung galaxy nexus. in 4.0.x i didn't see a setting like you talked about.

  • @Vault15 i was thinking that too.

  • hi I tried it and it gave me an error saying pbxes registration failed. when i setup the sipdroid account i forgot what pswd i used so i changed in the personal data and used the same one but it doesnt allow me to call. I havent deleted sipdroid yet for that reason. pbxes doesnt give any support pls help

  • although this method works when set up to receive calls, it cannot call out w/o going to the Verizon mobile network this way. i ended up re-installing SipDroid and use that app to place and receive calls. works great, you just have to leave that app running all the time but at least you can call out and receive both.

  • @todjihad I had the same thing happen, it could receive calls fine but could not dial out w/o going to Verizon. I solved the problem by re-installing SipDroid and letting it handle the calls. if you set-up the SipDroid app shown in the video and keep it open, it will handle both out and in bound calls.
