(March 5, 2009) Beheadings, assassinations, gun battles on the street - Mexico is ground zero in the global war on drugs. U.S. media focuses on the spread of violence north of the border, as drug cartels spread fear and intimidation south of it. What will it take for Mexico to beat the drug lords?

maybe the media doesnt show it, but the mexican army is fighting day and night with no mercy. Mexican army has arrested or killed the main gangs, what USA has done? they keep selling illegal weapons. They dont arrest anyone in their soil. the drug dealers have the bank accounts in the USA, and they cant do anything about it? cmon. As far as i see, drugs are a usa problem, they are full of junkies, offer and deman, as simple as that.

@onlinetechsupport Do you know why they call it afgan heroin or why the united states just happened to see larger percentage of heroin being imported? how many opium fields are there in the united states? the answer is not many. What country is known for opium fields? what country is the united states at war with? Everyone knows how airport security is an especially in Afghanistan. Only high rank military officers get away without security clearances but still i wonder who sneaks in the drugs.

@abbad0n I have a better idea, why doesn't Mexico legalize pot. they will legally make the drug, create tons of legitimate jobs, it will make Mexico billions in tax revenue. with it being legalized Americans them selfs would cross the boarders to buy it, this could drop the violence drastically. It will become more of an American problem then a Mexican one.

What the U.S. needs to do is start paying people to hand over illegal drugs for destruction, and legalize Cannibis, slap a small tax on it, that sort of thing.

@OnlineTechSupport the drugs go north to the other 'stans, then fly to latin america, then hop the border like other drugs. its well documented.
