I thought Konami said they had fixed the DDOS attacks by the cheats? Isn't DDOS and actual illegal act punishable by law?

This was the state of the Tournament lobby this weekend on the EU servers. Can someone please tell me what in the hell is going on??? Am I wrong in assuming it's DDOSers causing such mayhem? Was this only happening to us?

Why is it so bad? Why is it that some teams/people are able to avoid the disconnections and others cant? Is there a special router or settings one has to have to avoid this?

I played today on 512kb connect with my PS3 connected with wired ethernet behind a DMZ - what am I doing wrong?

  • basically, the DDoSers are unable to DDoS individuals (such as yourself) anymore, THAT is what konami has fixed. However, i dont think they expected their own server to be attacked. So what these DDoSers are doing is, when they are losing/lost, they attack the konami server and cause all people in-game to Disconnect. If your lucky enough to finish your game ASAP you may be lucky to avoid the disconnection. It sucks i know haha... NA is terrible. There has been constant tournies with NO WINNERS.

  • @MezmerizedMGO Great answer. Thank you.

Hmmm, what I don't understand is that certain clans appear to be able to avoid the disconnect. And I'm wondering what they are doing differently to the rest of us. Is it their router settings or something else that make them less vulnerable? Any thoughts?

  • @nejinaji If you don't care about stats, and you have enough patience, and you have big cojones, then yes. If you are not patience, and you know that you will get really mad at glitchers, then don't bother. The game is really good, but is really fuked up.

  • I always get DDOS'd in tournies. Fucking disgrace.

  • Come one, what's more fun than an overly laggy tourny with no winners? -_-

  • @mumra2k Meh...i'm looking for a transition OUT of MGO just incase they never fix the Ddos problem. My plan is to mix-up some Battlefield 3 to replace mgo's tactical aspect, and also get Starhawk for ps3 and Ghost recon: Future Soldier since both look to be highly influenced by MGO (and are online 3rd person stealth/shooters--my favorite genre). Also, Kojima announced today that MGS Rizing is still in deveopement and he's heading it (look on N4G website). Let's hope the delay was 4 making mgo3

  • @Bruce372 yeah its getting really out of hand now, i mean, what, DDOS has being happening for well over 2/3 months now..and konami are still failing to ban those who do it. I would have expected that they would have noticed their own servers being attacked by now. I know konami is slack when it comes to glitching and stuff, but this is much much more serious than just a petty lagswitch.

  • @MezmerizedMGO This is the exact thing that happened to me when I was playing with Mumra on saturday in Survival. I think I was the only one that DCed from that and I even DCed from teh Survival servers. I mean, it's great to be back but dear gracious this is really ridiculous!

  • @ScottawaH I preety much doubt it's impossible to scan IP's. As I said earlier Konami would preety much need a VPN for that to happen, and honestly I can't see how that would help with the frequent lag issues.

I have somewhat of a "advanced" knowledge about Distribuited Denial of Service (DDoS) and I know how much of a powerfull weapon it is, especially against people who don't know how to work around it. The reason why it was made illegal, it's because it's unstoppable if done correctly.

  • @mumra2k

Hey Mumra to ask your question, some teams can avoid the DDoS if they get a free win for the 1st round of tourny or they finished their game quick enough to avoid DDoS all together.
