This 4-part documentary from 2008 follows the progress of 4 law students on the thorny path to become fully-fledged barristers, as well as giving a glimpse into the work of already established barristers.
Barristers are a legal profession with a long tradition in the judicial system of England and Wales. Until fairly recently most barristers were often not directly contacted by clients but by solicitors on behalf of clients. But as some things in the profession this is slowly changing.

  • that black barrister is talking nonsense. Wait till, he's murdered by some black thugs, then he'll know what it's like.... or not, because he'll be dead.

  • The black barrister is funny. I love his droll, knowing humour.

  • @meleszenawi1111 you don't know what you are talking, the British system is shit. many lawyer - old bastards in their 70s are still prosecuting cases for the CPS - some of them can't even switch on a computer.

  • @freetoskateboard do you have any experience of the British system? It is very inefficient. You can instruct a barrister and work with him for several months and at the very last moment he can withdraw from the case and leave it to someone who has barely read the papers. Also, the police can work closely with a lawyer who the very next day will be cross examining him. it is a rotten syste.

  • Its really crazy seeing the Brits succumb to having State Barristers similar to American District Attorneys. DA's in the USA are completely in with the courts and as a result we have a lot of corruption. Maybe the same or similar in Britain in some fashion or another, its just that as an American, I was stoked to see the separation of the courts and the private barrister chambers, only to get tripped out by the adoption of State employed lawyers... Anyway.

  • @K1NGRHYZ ~ aren't they invariably tied?

  • @meleszenawi1111 yes but at the end of the day law is about justice not how good your lawyer.

  • I hope the UK does not drift toward americas system it sucks la lot of lawyers just want money and there is no skill in the same way a barrister needs a good voice quick wit things of this nature in america its all about eivdence and backroom bullshit deals.

  • Yes sir...nor would you.

I wonder if everyone who is excluded from the education system, lacks discipline and doesn't get a "proper upbringing" resorts to violent robbery? sounds like excuse making and bullshit mitigation to me...
