The new movie may have CGI, but it does not have R.J. MacReady.

@wcw2793 I think he died in the explosion. Here's how I see it:

When Macready says "Yeah, fuck you too!", he throws the dynamite and bolts for it. Between the replying screech of the Thing and the first big explosion, there's what sounds like a human scream. And it sounds too high-pitched to be Childs.

Hope that helps. If anyone else has a different take, I'd be glad to hear it.

The CGI in the prequel made it look too clean... I love the comment made about the 'joined face man corpse' effect in the original, that, with all the mayonnaise, red syrup and other fluids used to generate the effect, the whole thing 'stank of shit'... now, that's proper movie-making dedication... :-)

@Enruler There is a version of the prequel without 70% of the CGI of the actual cut, but Universal said " NO LOLZ WE WANT CGI WITHOUT REAL REASONS TROLOLLO " , so the director had to reshot a lot of scene and add CGI instead of practical effect, there is a petition if you want to sign it, to MAYBE see one day the practical effect cut !

@snake2006 This so much. I just watched it tonight and I was so disappointed. The CGI effectively ruined it in my opinion. I didn't really feel the tense moments the 80's version gave too.

John Carpenter has said he has ideas of a sequel, complete with Russel and Keith David (frostbite being the reason behind their aged faces). If there is to be a sequel, then there's a possible chance Nauls would return as the thing.
