There is a product - it isn't cheap - for shatterproofing windows. It's a thin film you apply and then the person can't get through even with a baseball bat. They use it for hurricanes and for protecting cars from attack as well...

If your good with carpentry and metal working make your door jam with steel c bar over the 2x4If your building your house just put a square steel pipe over the 2x4 where you want the doors. Make or modify a door so it has bolts that come out of both sides like a vault door.

I like the door stop but the roses aren't going to stop a starving mob. A 12 gauge Mossburg 500 or an AR15 with fragmenting rounds will though.

I like the "Door Club" for use when we are occupying the house, but do you have a suggestion for fortifying the door while we are out?

2 by 4's are ugly but work; and with 4 inch screws into the studs. you layer 6 inch squares and use a 2 by 10 by 12 for the crossbar. and the side plates; took the cops a tow truck to back through it; after snatching the iron door. i heard my neighbors iron door get smashed through yesterday by a 17 yr old with a chunk of my bricks from my flowerbed. broke the iron door to shit. i have carpets and pitbulls; plus i like the 2 by 4 or 2 by 10 by 12 look. im single also..lol

@preparedchipmunk Laugh if you must, but Mike is right. Do you really think that the Girl Scouts are going to uphold the Promise and Law in a SHTF situation? Once the inventory of cookies is gone, all that training will be used to jack YOUR stuff.

No one likes to think of their home as dirty, but the reality is people track a lot of dirt, debris, grass, etc. in to their homes over a period of time. It is NOT IMPOSSIBLE for that "bracket" installed down in the subfloor to become clogged or even filled with material so as to prevent the door club from working properly. Therefore you would be reauired to vaccuum it out frequently & perhaps use a tool to dig out hardened material. Still this product is definitely better than nothing!

I like the door club idea. I'm not convinced it will keep the door attached to the door frame, though. A neighbor of ours had an entryway that was recessed from the walls of the front of the house, not much different from the one in this video. They instealled a security door of iron at the corners of the home's wall. This gave them the ability to open the front door & easily speak to people & still be protected with a distance of about 5FT, beyond the reach of anyone who tried to grab them.

i like the idea of the door club thing, but what if they realize that he door is being held by something at the bottom, and they knock if off the top hinges? then they could just lay it down and they're in, right? or am i just crazy?
