I dont quite understand why people watch a video and then post inappropriate remarks. If you are not interested in what she has to say DONT watch the video. I on the other hand am very interested because i just lost my teacher. If you watch her closely you can see that it is definitely not wrist vibrato do to the fact that she is not moving her wrist. Also what the hell does the way she speaks have to do with what she is saying. Anyways i thought the lesson was very nice and thanks for the help/

@spottedwolfso several years to perfect. to learn the basics and have a legit vibrato, depends on person, usually a year
i have been doing arm vibrato all the time..and my sister uses the finger vibrato..both me and my sis are in the same grade and have the same ability on the violin..but the point is i often get pitch problems...i know where to press the notes but sumtimes the notes that i've pressed may be slightly higher or lower...is my way of vibrating the note affecting my pitch???

@kyarichio If you are doing arm vibrato correctly, it should not be affecting your pitch. What does your teacher tell you? If you move too much, then you can affect the pitch, but I would consider that bad technique and it could happen with any kind of vibrato. If you have correct pitch without vibrato, then you are doing your vibrato incorrectly. If the pitch problem happens with and without vibrato, then put some tapes back on your fingerboard and work for better finger placement.

So in basic words , your just slightly wiggling yur fingers while keeping it steady on the string ?

@mysterious494 No, you absolutely don't wiggle your fingers. Think of the ocean and how it affects the boats in the ocean. The boats are only moving because the water is moving. Your finger is the boat and your arm is the water. Your finger is only moving because you are moving your arm.

how long does it take for an average person to master vibrato?
spottedwolfso 8 months ago
@spottedwolfso It varies greatly from person to person. I'd say give it at least 6 months of steady practice. What I noticed myself is that for a long time, I had to consciously tell myself to remember to vibrate. Then one day I realized I was doing it without thinking about it first. That was when I really knew I had it.
