I don't know how many times I'll have to say that this take has never ever been commercially available! This was only shown on TV, so if you think it was like that on your old VHS, then maybe you recorded it off the TV! On all official releases (VHS, DVD, BD) an entirely different take was used, it was widescreen and didn't go back and forth between Kirk and Saavik. The lines were delivered differently.

@tsntana the scene was never cut, it's just different takes of the same scene. All widescreen versions use a single take of Alley and Shatner in a wide two shot.

@orencio1969 In the theatrical version, it was cut. It was restored in this TV version and the director's cut.

Shatner's a fantastic actor.  When he breaks out in that grin, he really *is* Kirk at that moment; he's not acting, it's as if he's the character physically recalling this funny old memory.

@peejay1954 Yes, I have seen them. Jeri Ryan is not nearly as exotic, and Jolene Blalock is "enhanced" where it counts. Kirstie Alley's beauty is all natural.
