I’m sick of these tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists who keep yapping their gums about banks, Zionists, and elitists!!! They take their political and moral convections and use it to shape their own view of the world. They would not think the same way if they were subjected to the same amount of violence non-Muslims are subjected to on a daily basis in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. What about the Christians in Egypt? Why don't people talk about that?

Hitch wins again.

How much education did it take to give us this debate?
1st guy: UK is in Iraq, and the US was in Vietnam(...?) and Iraq!! (but lets ignore that the US is only at odds with a few Muslim countries and has more allies in the M.E. than enemies). Bust since the UK/US had autocratic Iraq as an enemy this justifies jihad in the UK. (but lets ignore the fact that jihad hurts the UK public and Iraq may or may not been supported by the public)
2nd guy: long winded way to give examples of intolerance

I might not agree with Hitchen's interpretation of Christianity but he is BRILLIANT in this video! On many points this guy just gets reality. Hitchens is one of the few remaining non-corrupt journalists left in the world.

@boonw Hitchens is not arguing for a double standard; that's why he brought up his continuing struggle to bring Kissinger to justice. The questioner sees jihadism as a reasonable response to the injustices of the West, and this is unfounded. What on earth does shutting down girls' schools and indiscriminately murdering civilians have to do with the crimes of the British Empire?

I expected better from hitchens. He was essentially asking why is it OK when people in the west blow shit up in the name of a cause, but not OK when the muslims blow shit up. He wasnt necessarily saying that everything is the wests fault, he was asking why we have this double standard.
People forget about the Mumbai attacks and Russian moscow airport ordeal a few years back... Surely there not colleborters of American foreign policy?
Its important in times of war to drown out the self-hating liberals.

@moosepopper That's why I said "extreme" liberals specifically :) And yes, I understand the frustration when a speaker answers a question by giving a specific example and tries to generalize from that, but it happens a lot and in most cases you really can extract a bigger answer from it. I think this is one of those cases, i.e. Hitchens is saying that *anything* we do will be used by Al Qaeda as a reason to attack, and it's silly to say it's our fault and they wouldn't attack otherwise.
