Too Good To Be True (JB love story) Ch.25

Chapter 25

"Okay, let's divide into two and look for Briana and Kevin." Nick suggested.
"Nick and I know where what is located on this island, so we'll be different 'teams'." Mikhayla smiled, air-quoting 'teams'. "So Gabby, Maddy, who do you want to pair up with?"
"Nick!" Gabby immediately answered, taking Nick's muscular arm.
"Sounds good to me," Nick smiled.
"Alright then," Maddy took Mikhayla's arm "Find them, and let's meet back at the main house in an hour."
Everybody agreed, as the two pairs took off in different directions.

Gabby and Nick chatted as they walked.
They laughed at each other's jokes and had fun as they searched, but soon, the conversation came to an end and they dropped in complete silence.
Gabby didn't like the silence. It's not that it was awkward or anything, but Gabby preferred to talk than not to talk. And since it was only the two of them there, Gabby decided to ask a question that had been haunting her.
Gabby took in a deep breath and let it out.
"Nick," She said. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Fire away," Nick asked, taking Gabby's hand and squeezing it.
"Um..." Gabby said, and paused. Then she took another deep breath and continued. "I was just wondering... Do you still like Maddy?"
When Nick didn't answer, Gabby continued.
"I saw you, like, looking at her in a special way back on the ship." Gabby said "And I'm, well, worried that you like her and not me."
Gabby held her breath as she waited for the answer. What if the answer was 'yes'? What if he still did like Maddy? Gabby's heart was pounding fast like never before.
Nick's heart, on the other hand, was pounding even faster because of two reasons: 1) He never saw the question coming and didn't think he'd ever have to answer that particular question; and 2) He didn't know the answer.
But maybe right now, one certain answer would be appropriate.
Nick stopped walking, faced Gabby, and took her hands.
"I love you, Gabby," He said "And only you."
He then leaned in to kiss her as Gabby smiled.
He closed his eyes, and felt sparks as their lips met.
But then he noticed something.
When he kissed Gabby, in his mind was Maddy. He also noticed that this wasn't the first time. Every time he was kissing Gabby, in his mind he was kissing Maddy. What was that supposed to mean? That Nick still couldn't get over Maddy? That he was still in love with her? That couldn't be. It just couldn't. Not after how Maddy had used him. No way.
At least that's what he thought...
"I love you too," Gabby said as soon as they pulled away from each other.
She was smiling. Her eyes were sparkling. Her small hands held tight on Nick's.
Gabby was definitely in love, and even Confused-Nick could tell.
Maybe being Gabby's boyfriend might just hurt her. Was holding her hands and kissing her with confused feeling wrong?
Then, somewhere in the corner of his mind, he noticed something. But he didn't want to admit it, so he just ignored it and tried to forget about it.
It was the fact that what he was doing to Gabby was almost the same thing as what Maddy had done to him.
"Come on, let's go look for them," Gabby said, tugging on Nick's hand.
Gabby was happy to know that Nick loved her. Maybe now she could stop worrying.
But then, what was that small silence right after she asked her first question? Was he... thinking? But then would that mean that he wasn't actually sure about it?
Gabby didn't want to think about all these depressing questions, so she just shook it out of her mind.
