I dont recommend raising quail on the ground. The problem with that is they are suseptable to a hostof parasites and worms. Then you must worm them and you cant eat there eggs for 2 weeks.Raising themon wire is much healthier for them and it also makes there eggs much cleaner.

wow , thank you for putting this on youtube

feel sorry for your quail, they like grass under their feet and dirt to bathe in! not a small wire mesh cage.
-
cage looks small, i'm sure they would like a bit of turf/grass under their feet not mesh, they like to dust bathe too, add a bowl of sand and grit

Hmm i hope these things can eat any human food.
When i was 5 years old....we had these neighbors that had at least 20 mama quails and it was right over our fence. Every day afterschool i would take allll my left over food and sometimes even starving myself to feed those quails. I love quails. lol.

Albert F. Marsh was the inventor of the famous Roll-X incubators ect. and published many books on Quail. Even the cages he invented for self starters are still in production. each cage compartment is about 1 by 1 foot with 1 foot height , holding 3 birds in each compartment. with the eggs rolling out for easy collection
How can you tell male or female ?.
Thanks

@khonglap these are called Pharaoh or Coturnix, the Males have a redish color on the breast feathers.

I don't recommend this setup for people in hot areas like Arizona, all it takes is a miscalculation on where the sun will be and in and in less than an hour you can kill your birds, a larger aviary with access to the ground will allow you to gather eggs and rake up the poop, but also the birds can dig in the dirt to stay cool which also keeps flies off of them. Even with the cover you have in the video the size of cage is to small.
But for indoors or under a covered porch this would be fine

I used to work at the first Quail farm ever , Marsh Farms here in Garden Grove, Calif. early 1970s, The Farm was started in the 60s.
We were the #1 Coturnix Quail manufacture Co. in the World, shipping quail to Vietnam during the war and other parts of the world shipping cages, eggs ect.The Cages at the Farm for production held 120 birds in a 6 x 3 foot cage , with a 1 foot height. In 6 to 7 tears , holding about 1000 birds, total at time 10k to 20k of birds in the barn. All very heatly.
