Reality Check Ep.8

Joe:

"Demi, please tell me where we're going?!" I kinda yelled at her.

" Please be patient, Joe--" She giggled. "We're almost there!"

" Fine, but make sure all these running will be worth it." I rolled my eyes.

" Oh,Joe! It will all be worth it!" She ran faster, therefore, making me almost trip. I was looking at my feet trying to avoid rocks and roots.

She suddenly stopped. " Look..." Demi smiled.

"....it's beautiful.." I said. There was a waterfall, a big one. The moon was reflecting the clear water and there were more fireflies. The breeze smelled sweet and the mood was just serene.

" Come on, sit with me.." Demi patted the grass beside the lake.

I nodded and went to her.

"...I come here very often, mostly when I feel...lonely.." She looked at the moon and dipped her feet on the cold lake.

I looked at her." ..Demi," I said. " don't you..want to move?" I asked her.

"move? why?" She said with a puzzled look.

"well, because of ..bad memories?" I told her.

Demi giggled. She looked as if she was depressed yet cheerful.

" Joe," She looked at me. " I can't move. There may be bad memories here, but there are good ones too.." She smiled.

"good ones?," I asked, she was confusing. " how can there be good times when your parents were killed?"

"Joe," Demi sighed. " Above all those troubles and obstacles I had run into, There were always good things, you know what I'm talking about?" She laid down on the soft grass and move upwards preventing her lower part of her body to get wet.

I remained silent. How? I just don't get why she could just be chilled with all of those things that happened to her.

I looked around as I heard someone humming. Then, I noticed it was Demi.

" You know what,?" She said as she looked over me. " My mom used to sing me a lullaby every time we went camping here." She smiled.

With great interest, I asked her."Can..you sing it for...me?"

She looked at me slightly shocked. " but.., you might not like my singing!" She sticked her tongue out and giggled.

" I just want to hear it.." I looked at her in the eyes. "please?"

She sighed." Fine."

I smiled to my self.

Demi hummed a few low then high notes.

She closed her eyes and began to sing softly.
"Hush, my angel.
You'll be alright.
The moon will cradle you as you sleep.
Dear little child, don't weep.
Your guardian angel is here.
Hush now, close your eyes.
The stars will take you to the skies.
And as you drift away,
Just smile, because you're here to stay."

Her voice, was music to my ears. She sounded like an angel. A voice so pure, so... peaceful. Her eyes glittered as she looked at the moon. She looked like someone who had just found inner peace. I closed my eyes as she continued her lullaby.

Demi stopped. " ....." her voice cracked. She cupped her hands on her face and slightly weeped.

"Demi?" I said.

"..I'm sorry Joe, you must think I'm very emotional.." she forced a slight smile on her face, but tears continued to flow.

==== Author's P.o.v====

Joe looked at her with innocent eyes, he knew how she felt, he knew what she was going through.

He built up his courage and held her in his arms.

"...don't think of that..." he said as he held her tighter.

Demi couldn't help but cry harder. She cried onto his chest and for once since 1 year, she felt safe.

"Joe," She looked at him in the eyes. "...thank you.." she hugged him.

"Demi...," He leaned in.
