Sadly, a failed Appreciation of Peter Cushing's interpretation of Baron Frankenstein.

I have to say that I don't like this version at all, for I don't think Radiohead's cover of Nobody Does It Better fits it. I took the clips, timing and all, with Carly Simon in mind; and I'm not very fast at this, it took me two full days. But then, the video with the original version was blocked, which surprises me a lot, for the song was/is used over and over again on YouTube.

  • Actually Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus took place in the 1790's, usually reading 17__. Mary Shelly was goofin' on her husband Percy Shelly and her father William Godwins attempt to reinvent men philosophically, as well as the French Revolution, Napoleon, and Rousseau's Natural Man.

  • I won't say Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was goofin' her poet husband or her naturalist-philosopher-writer father; she took a lot of what they said and wrote to her heart, I think. The book is hardly to be seen as a parody to their theories, rather as a statement on science and morals.

  • You call this a failed tribute to the baron!?! Gawd you should see some of my vids Thespilian, mine doesn't hold a candle to your, nor will it ever!!!! IT ROX YOU ROCK! KEEP MAKING THESE AWESOME TRIBUTES XD

  • Gosh, how could I miss this comment? Thanks a lot. I think, though, it worked much better with the original version of the song, and it was in fact even cut down to the beat. But I'm glad you like it that much, many thanks for your kind words. =)

  • Go Peter!

  • Peter Cushing was GREAT! Even in bad movies he was always great! I prefer him as Van Helsing more than Dr. Frankenstein, but he still had something we don't see in stars today! Thanks for posting this!!!!! I LOVE this version of Nobody Does it Better!

  • (fans herself) Ohhhhh, Peter. How I wish I could do some WICKED WICKED things to you!

  • Love this vid. Excellent tribute.

The monster wasn't the Reousseian innocent, and was isolated, before he turned violent.

Much of Europe was as fearful of Napoleon's armies as we are of terrorists today (or monsters).

And she emphasized taking responsibility for what her father and her husband would create. She saw it as familial, with Victor essentially abandoning his child.

It was an argument to bear in mind to avoid excessive intellectualization and relize the consequences one might bring.

  • Oh my gosh! This song totally works and I have no idea why!
