Yesterday CBC continued its ongoing snide, dismissive, and condescending coverage of the third week of Occupy Wall Street with an interview with author/activist/Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges on its "inside the business world" show, the Lang and O'Leary Exchange. After the by now obligatory opening protestations of puzzlement as to what OWS is all about - "low budget" and "pretty nothing burgers" as blowhard host Kevin O'Leary described it - he then responded to Hedges' patient explanation by calling him "a left wing nutbar".
Since Holly Stick kindly left me the link this morning, Let Freedom Rain has posted a link and commentary on O'Leary's FoxNews behavior but I'm putting the vid and a transcript up here because Hedges' argument bears repeating and also because, as appalling as O'Leary's behavior certainly was, even more appalling is that O'Leary affects to be completely unable to follow Hedges' logic as to what exactly went wrong that caused OWS to happen.
He and other CBC talking heads either don't get it or pretend not to get it but you got it right away, didn't you? A more damning example of how completely dissociated our state broadcaster is with the plight of the 99% I cannot imagine.

  • I'm from Canada and I'm embarassed by this dickhead. F*ck you O'Leary. You're a O'Rielly wannabe!!

  • Everyone has the right to be stupid, but that O'Leary fellow is abusing the priviledge. Didn't know there were Canadian newscasters as loathesome as Fox and CNN and others in the US...though it's no surprise.

  • @sunlitporch Don't kid yourself - Canada is as bought and paid for by corporate interests as the US - it's just that our economy hasn't been as stripmined by those interests yet. But our news services have already been beating the Yankee corporate drum, and the piglets are already slobbering at the trough to sell out their weakest neighbours for a couple cents dividend increase so they can grow up to be greedy, self-aggrandizing pigs just like the piggies they envy in the South.

  • Kevin O'leary htinks he's SOO smart and so clever because he's rich. Let me tell you something Kevin, it isn't that difficult to be rich.

  • @randomfunish Have it your way, leave me alone.

    backatcha, my friend.

Did you delete my response or is there some kind of youtube glitch?

  • @randomfunish I'm 53, my friend. And there certainly is a shift going on, you have to be open-minded to notice though. Good luck. Peace out!

  • @KnewWorldNoing

Perhaps you're stuck in some sort of either-or.

there is no "the" old paradigm, nor is there a "the" new paradigm.

just curious. You're ~23 years old, right?

  • @KnewWorldNoing

Thanks for waking me up Knew!

I don't know what you mean by "remove your comments". I didn't remove anything. Maybe I deleted and corrected a spelling mistake or something.

RT (Russia Today), is a mouthpiece for a Russia that dreams of its former glory. As I've explained already, they, amongst other things, have any old idiot on the air including, routinely, people who are apologists for genocide in regions they (Russia) wishes to have influence in.

  • @randomfunish Just why do you remove your comments then? And how is it that you consider it to be beneath your dignity, to watch RT?

Perhaps you're stuck in the old paradigm, wake up!

  • @KnewWorldNoing

I normally don't deign to watch RT clips. They let all kinds of riff-raff on there, including apologists for balkans genocide. This is a mouthpiece for a Russia which dreams of it's former influence.

You're right. Hedges does quite well in a setting where he's revered and listed to unquestionably.

However, as we see in the clip on this page, he easily unravels into actual tears at 3.33.

This delicate, weepy flower is too sensitive for real dialogue.

  • @randomfunish No need to watch it again, do some research on who Hedges really is. Here's an example:
