Platinum foil gets red hot from the cathode rays focussed on it.

  • Thanx for demonstrating some very rare tubes in action. What are you showing us when you flop down the Maltese Cross target? That its shadow is burnt into the tube's glass?

  • It shows that the glass which hasn't already been subjected to the cathode rays glows much brighter. The green glass fluorescence dims as the glass is exposed.

  • at low pressures and voltages above 5kV x-rays can be produced. However, they first need to penetrate the glass, which a part does. You really shouldn't be driving this tube by a spark inductor.
