real engineers do the dumb things due to influence of administration, management and politics.

problem in english language space is - everybody can call himself "engineer". where i come from you actually need to graduate from engineering-school / university

before that "title" can be added to your name on a card

or door frame. Everything below that calls himself "technician" instead engineer.

we have indeed enough dumb engineers. but these might be of the bright kind. The dumb ones build shuttles that explode, oil tankers with just a single finger thick hull and hubble telescopes that cant see sharp before it receives some in space repairs...
