This video highlights a few ways Lā'ie's institutions are working together to conserve energy and promote a more sustainable community. Hawaii currently gets 90 percent of its energy from oil. Becoming less reliant on imported fossil fuels will be a challenge, but the potential growth of Brigham Young University--Hawaii offers a catalyst for Lā'ie to create a more sustainable community. New academic buildings, chapels and even landscaping offer an opportunity to design a more energy efficient campus. New housing in Malaekahana and new roads could be designed to promote conservation. Envision Lā'ie represents a diverse group of residents and stakeholders of Laie, Kahuku, Hauula, and Ko'olau Loa who are working together to study Lā'ie and plan for its future possibilities.
