@chinasherry1961 ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

@uversa777 I like this version. I also think that Tom Verlaine's is better, so maybe this is Bowie's way of covering the song: doing it nearly exactly the way Tom did since there is no better way to perform it.

@romanticandperky Rimbaud wrote Une Saison en enfer before going to East Africa; and Harar is in Ethiopia (then Abyssinia), not Somalia.

This is the song that got me listening to Bowie, something in that special vibrato caught in some lines of this song just caught me..

the man named Paul Verlaine after whom the author of this song named himself was the 'gay' lover of poet Arthur Rimbaud. Rimbaud would abandon him, eventually find his way to Somalia, start a relationship with a woman there, and write his magnum opus ("A Season In Hell").
I think David's version of this song is, to say the least, inspired.

Wow!
I love Bowie and Tom Verlaine, but had no idea this song was written by Tom and covered by David.
Thanks for postong !

Are you kidding me I heard that he is not on the same planet with Bowie It would have been iteresting if he sang it his own way but it came off like a bad impression

Perfect showcase for his amazing voice, especially that riff starting 2:14

I'd have to agree. I mean, he's prettier than me and I'm a girl.
