The Anoka-Hennepin School Board meets 6:30 p.m. tonight at the district administrative offices in Coon Rapids. District staff will review enrollment numbers as of Oct. 1.
In other Anoka-Hennepin news, the School Board's decision to close six schools is now void because the district violated state law and didn't give sufficient two week notice to the public for the original public hearings about the closings. Parent leaders in the group called "Defend Riverview" brought this violation to the district's attention. The group is against Riverview Specialty School for Math and Environmental Science in Brooklyn Park from closing. The schools that had been approved to close included Champlin Elementary, Riverview, both kindergarten centers, Peter Enich in Anoka and Park View in Champlin, L.O Jacob and Sorteberg elementary schools in Coon Rapids. A new public hearing to discuss school closures is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Blaine High School, and the School Board is scheduled to vote on it again at its meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.
The Brooklyn Park City Council meets 7 p.m. tonight at City Hall. The council could approve its 2009 bias crime response plan that was unveiled at a press conference Oct. 1, after three white men allegedly attacked two black men in late September.
Students from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis will join the residents and staff from Copperfield Hill Senior Living in Robbinsdale for "Halloween Horror," a Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Patrick Henry students will be among the "spooky" dinner guests, while the murder of one of the guests takes place. Students will try to convince Copperfield Hill residents of the killer's identity. After reviewing the information given by the students, residents will work together to solve the mystery and catch the killer.
