A personal response to the recent onslaught of atheistic books in the marketplace---written by the brother of a prominent skeptic. Detailing a very personal story of how he left Christianity but dramatically returned, Hitchens explores firsthand accounts of faithless societies---and provides hope for anybody whose friends and family are enchanted by anti-religious arguments. 240 pages, hardcover from Zondervan.
"Self satisfied, arrogant, intolerant, completely resistant to any kind of outside argument and contemptuous of it."
"One of the purposes of my book is to point out to those of them who are perhaps, open to any kind of persuasion..."
Do you not find those contradicting? They are all "completely resistant," and yet some are "open to persuasion?"
Can someone explain that?

I was watching the muggedvideos page where a muslim woman was in the audience discussing how she 'chose' to wear a bag over her head, and that as a muslim woman she had free choice to do so.....I cannot abide listening to this kind of shite spewed out by these people, ESPECIALLY ignorant and uneducated muslim women. What a farce that whole islam debate is. Better get it fixed soon.

@turningofthetide1 Ah, but yet you will believe that a frog can turn into a prince over millions of years, and that male and female evolved from a puddle of monkey urine. Ha, if you want to tale about fairy tales just look at evolution.

@Gangly1 Well, I have to admit, that I listen to his brother as well, and comes off with a condescending tone as well. So, in my mind, they are definitely similar in their head strong opinions. However, his brother has detailed historical essays to back up his belief, whereas Peter tends to focus on a specific history he wants to defend and omitting others to make his biased point.

I have no problem with him expressing his views - it's the way he espouses them that troubles me.
He exudes a belief that he is the only person ( on the planet) capable of constructive thought.
He writes in a similar fashion in The Mail.
The extreme condescension is not a christian trait.

@DaanOFF321 Oh no i believe it is millions of years old. some except the idea that it is millions of years old and are still Christian, others still don't except that idea. But i would say that a good majority would subscribe to the scientific evidence rather than just biblical and are still Christians. So it depends on who you go to realy.

He was one of the most booed guests I have ever seen on BBC's Question Time programme. I agreed with almost every point he made. He is absolutely correct with his description of atheists, the vast majority at least. You can barely discuss a topic with them from a biblical point of view without suffering a barrage of ad hominem attacks - 'you're stupid, brainwashed, ignorant' etc etc. Ad homs are the intellectual equivalent of sarcasm, the lowest form of conversation.

@mem521 But how is that possible? Christians believe the world is a few thousands year old though it has been proven dinosaurs existed ten millions of years ago. And don't say it hasn't been.
